Esther S. Wascher

TRIMONT – A Celebration of Life service for Esther S. Wascher, 98, of Trimont, Minn., formerly of Ormsby, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Odin, Minn.

Esther was called to her eternal rest on Saturday evening, Aug. 30, 2014, at Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minn.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont, and one hour prior to the service Thurday at the church.

Esther Sophie Breitbarth was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Bancroft, Neb., to Willie and Christine (Roth) Breitbarth. She was received into the kingdom of God through Holy Baptism and made public confession of her faith at her confirmation both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pender, Neb. Esther attended country school near Bancroft, Neb. She then did domestic work in the area.

Esther was united in marriage to Leonard Wascher on Aug. 6, 1939, in West Point, Neb. After their marriage, they lived in Nebraska until 1950, when they moved and farmed near Odin, Minn. They retired from farming in 1972 moving to Ormsby, Minn. They both became a resident of the Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont in 2004. Leonard died on March 21, 2007.

Esther was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn and a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Ormsby. She enjoyed many activities and hobbies including gardening, quilting, sewing, playing cards, crocheting, baking and canning. She belonged to the Ormsby Ladies Birthday Club for many years. Esther was a great fan of her grandson’s fast pitch softball team and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. She volunteered at Good Samaritan Pleasantview Home in St. James for 30 years.

Survivors include: her son, Lowell (Lois) Wascher of Helena, Mont.; two daughters, LeAnn (Marvin) Cummins of Corcoran, Minn., and Lana Brock of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Wascher; daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Gerald Heller; son-in-law, Dick Brock; infant son, Lynn; grandson, Trent Bennett; one brother, Wallace (Ann) Breithbarth; two sisters, Gertrude Wascher and Leola Koopman; and other relatives.
