Congrats on the county fair

WELCOME – Wow … only one more week left in August. School and Labor Day aren’t far away. Where did the summer go?

Congratulations to the Fair Board and all those involved in the Martin County Fair this year for another good fair for Martin County. Your hard work shows.

Welcome Library will have a special event when Scott Kudelka, a Minneopa Area naturalist, will present an interpretive program, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday.

Participants will learn what are some of the cool animals found in Minnesota, and how these animals have adapted to survive in their natural environment.

He will use furs from 14 different mammals to show what different perspectives and characteristics help them to survive. There will be a number of hands-on activities including the game “Guess the critter,” is it a badger, skunk, mink, coyote or what?

Summer reading at the Welcome Library went well and the librarian would like to remind the children who participated that this will be the last week to finish their reading sheets and claim prizes. Welcome Library hours are 2-5 p.m. Monday and Wednesdays, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays.

Four Corner Birthday Club will meet for cards and fellowship 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the home of Shirley Schmidt. Sounds like fun.

Did you know why the club is called the Four Corner Birthday Club? It’s because halfway to Ceylon, the four townships meet at the corner or intersection of 70th St. and Highway 263.

The four townships are Manyaska to the northwest, Lake Belt to the southwest, Tenhassen to the southeast, and Rolling Green to the northeast.

St. John Lutheran in Sherburn invites all area residents to their coffee hour from 8:30-10 a.m. on Tuesdays during the month of August. The only one left is on Aug. 26.
