Elmer A. Sauck
TRUMAN – A memorial service for Elmer A. Sauck, 94, of Truman, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont, Minn., with inurnment in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont.
Elmer passed away Monday morning, Aug. 11, 2014, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednes-day, Aug. 13, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are preferrred to St. John’s United Church of Christ or donor’s choice.
Elmer Alfred Sauck was born Oct. 26, 1919, in Pleasant Prairie Township, Martin County, Minn., the son of Alfred and Nellie (Thate) Sauck. Elmer attended school in Pleasant Prairie, Rutland and Waverly Townships. He furthered his education for one year at the University of Minnesota Ag School. On Sept. 27, 1942, Elmer was united in marriage to Marcella Wiebe at St. John’s Evangelical Parsonage in Fairmont. This union was blessed with five children:?Mary Ann, Jeanne, John, Mark, and Brian. The couple lived north of Fairmont before moving to the farm near Truman where they currently live. Elmer and Marcella shared over 71 years together.
Elmer worked on the farm with his dad. After getting married, Elmer and Marcella had a dairy farm and later had hogs, cattle, chickens and ducks. Elmer continued farming until his retirement in 1984.
Elmer was a life-long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was active as an usher, an elder emeritus, and with the church council. He enjoyed fishing and was a great gardener.
Left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Marcella Sauck of Truman, Minn.; children, Mary Ann (Glenn) Hruska of Madelia, Minn., Jeanne (Lonny) Schwieger of Fairmont, Minn., John Sauck and special friend, Carol Kiser of Kingman, Ariz., Mark (Kay) Sauck of Truman, Minn., and Brian (Linda) Sauck of Fairmont, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Peters of Paso Robles, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Alfred and Nellie Sauck, Elmer was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Denise Schwieger; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Mary Wiebe; daughter-in-law, Connie Sauck; sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Norman Spee; brother-in-law, Quintin Peters; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rudy and Ruth Broker.
