Valeria Palmer

WINNEBAGO – Valeria Margaret Palmer, age 87, of Winnebago, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Lutheran Church Of Our Savior in Winnebago, with Rev. William Sabol, officiating.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Winnebago. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Spencer-Owen Funeral Home, 345 6th Ave. SE, in Winnebago, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

She was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Galena Township, Minn., the daughter of Gustav and Margaret (Meyer) Kuehl. She was a graduate of Trimont High School in 1945. On June 26, 1945, she married James A. Palmer in Lincoln, Neb. From this union, they were blessed with four children: Alan, Diana, Kathleen and Karen. She was a long time member of Lutheran Church of our Savior in Winnebago. She volunteered in many groups over the years. She was involved in the Winnebago American Legion Auxiliary Club, Lutheran Woman’s Mission League, Lydia Circle, KJLY Radio, Meals on Wheels, Parker Oaks, and Red Hat Society. She enter the workforce in 1944 at the Stokely-Van Camp factory in Fairmont, Minn. She also was employed at the Huntley Grocery Store in 1960s. She returned to Stokely’s in Winnebago until they closed in May of 1979; she then went on to work at the Stokely factory in Fairmont until she retired. She enjoyed quilting, cross word puzzles, shopping and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Alan (Lois) Palmer of Redwood Falls, Minn.; daughters, Diana (Larry) Hoppe of Trenton, Mo., and Karen (Jim) Putnam of Winnebago; 11 grandchildren;, 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband James; daughter, Kathleen Ann Palmer; great-granddaughter, Erica Putnam; three brothers; and her parents.
