Sign-up open for community bike ride

FAIRMONT – Sign-up is now open for Fairmont Market Square’s community bike ride Sunday.

Three guided routes of varying lengths through Fairmont are available, all starting at 2 p.m., from Fairmont Market Square, located at Heritage Acres.

Fairmont Market Square is an event featuring artisan vendors, farmers market, entertainment, activities and food vendors.

Fairmont Area registration slated

FAIRMONT – Fairmont Area Schools will hold registration for 2014-15 on Friday and Monday, with all students registering in the Junior-Senior High School media center.

Registration hours for students in K-12 are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

Students in grades 7-12 must have a school photo taken during registration. Students in grades K-6 may choose to have their photo taken during registration or on Sept. 17 at the elementary school.

Updated immunization records should be brought to registration.

Early Childhood open house set

FAIRMONT – Early Childhood Family Education and Discovery Place Preschool at Fairmont Area Schools will hold a parents-only open house 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday in the William Budd Room at Fairmont Elementary.

Preschool classes begin the week of Sept. 8, with Early Childhood Classes beginning the week of Sept. 15.

One files for school, three for city

FAIRMONT – As of press time Wednesday, one race has taken shape for Fairmont City Council.

Timothy McConnell and Michael Schutz have filed to run for the Ward 3 council seat. Current representative Joe Kallemeyn has announced he will not run.

Incumbent Darin Rahm has filed to retain his council seat in Ward 1.

No one has filed for the mayor’s office, currently held by Randy Quiring.

In Fairmont Area school board filings, Myron Moeller has filed. Seats held by Sandy Beckendorf and Diane Gerhardt are also up for election.

Anyone wishing to run can file until 5 p.m. Tuesday. Filings for City Council can be done at City Hall. School board filings are accepted at the district office at Fairmont Elementary.
