FAIRMONT – A public visitation for Joanne E. Becker, 77, of Fairmont, will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery near Northrop. Joanne passed away Friday morning, August 1, 2014, at her home in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joanne Eloy (Haack) Becker was born on March 14, 1937, in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry F. and Pearl K. (Schafbuch) Haack. She attended school in Williamsburg, Iowa, and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Following her graduation, Joanne went on to earn her teaching certificate.

On June 25, 1966, Joanne was united in marriage to Ralph H. Becker at the St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. Together the couple made their home on the now 4th generation family farm in Rutland Township and were blessed with two children, Dean and Sarah.

Joanne taught for over 30 years in Fairmont and also substitute taught in Northrop and Granada. In her spare time, Joanne enjoyed gardening and attending sporting events for her grandchildren. She looked forward to the summer months and the fun of attending local parades. Joanne also enjoyed local county fairs and entering her projects into the various competitions. Her quiet time was spent doing counted cross-stich and latch-hook.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Ralph Becker of Fairmont, Minn.; children, Dean Becker and his wife, Carol of Granada, Minn., and Sarah Weber and her husband, Ray of Mankato, Minn.; grandchildren, Katelyn Weber and Mitchell Weber both of Mankato, Minn.; sister, Sharla Dunn and her husband, Don of Wendell, Idaho; brothers, Charles Haack of New York City, N.Y., and Leo Haack and his wife, LeeAnn of Williamsburg, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Haack of Marengo, Iowa, Norma Grefe of Truman, Minn., and Lorraine Vogt of Truman, Minn.; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Pearl Haack; brother, Russell Haack; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Schwieger and Laura Rosen.

The family requests memorials be given in Joanne’s name to the UHD Hospice Fund, Blue Earth, Minn., or the St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop, Minn.
