Favorite lake worth $50,000

FAIRMONT – Fire up your computer. There’s an opportunity for Fairmont’s Chain of Lakes to win a $50,000 grant.

The Michelob Golden Light Celebrate Your Lake program is underway, with a $50,000 grant to the lake receiving the most votes on Facebook.

This is the second year for the Celebrate Your Lake program, according to a Michelob Golden Light spokesperson.

“The program aims to support Minnesota’s love affair with its lakes by highlighting special lakes across the region,” the spokesperson said.

Last year, Albert Lea Lake was the winner, receiving the most votes on the Michelob Golden Light Facebook page. According to an article in the Albert Lea Tribune, the grant was used to install a canoe or kayak launch on Albert Lea Lake as part of a shorelines restoration project administered by the Lakes Foundation of Albert Lea.

Voting started July 8 and continues through Sept. 30. You can log on to www.celebrateyourlake.com and sign in through your Facebook account or go to the Michelob Golden Light Facebook page.

Individuals can vote once per day through the duration of the contest.

As of press time Friday, Fairmont’s Chain of Lakes was in the top five vote-getters.

The grant must be used for conserving and restoring the winning lake, or in Fairmont’s case, the lake chain.

A foundation representing the winning lake will receive the donation, the spokesperson said.

The Freshwater Society, a nonprofit organization based in Minnesota, is partnering with Michelob Golden Light for this contest.
