Nawrocki, Martins nip Bulls in G1

JACKSON – The only team to defeat the No. 1-seeded Jackson Bulls during the regular amateur baseball season did it again on Wednesday night in Jackson.

Ace right-hander Taylor Nawrocki notched a game-high 17 strikeouts en route to firing a four-hit complete game to lift the No. 4-seeded Fairmont Martins to a 3-2 Region 13C playoff victory over the Bulls.

Fairmont (22-8) hosts Jackson (25-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Herb Wolf Field in Game 2 of their third-round, best-of-3 series.

Tied 2-all, Dustin Sobolik delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI single in the top of the eighth.

Adam Schmidt, who had walked and took second on Sawyer Doocy’s single, scored the pivotal go-ahead run.

Shaun McGuire staked the Martins to a 2-0 lead by lining a two-run single during the top of the third inning.

Jackson plated two runs in its half of the fourth to knot the game.

The Bulls defeated the Martins by a 7-1 decision on June 18 in Jackson before Fairmont downed Jackson, 5-1, during the two teams’ contest on July 11 at Herb Wolf Field.
