55+ driver program planned
Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer a 55+ Driver Improvement Course next week. There will be a four-hour Refresher Course from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Monday in the community education room at Fairmont Elementary School. The fee for the four-hour refresher course is $20. Persons age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. Military support group to meet
Martin County Beyond The Yellow Ribbon will meet 6 p.m. Monday at Fairmont National Guard Armory. This is open to the public.
Aquatic Park announces August events
Fairmont Aquatic Park will offer special events to the community during August. There will be Daycare Days for daycare providers and child clients. They can visit for four hours at $2 per person on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Next will be Family Friday, where immediate family members can enter the park for $10 each Friday during the month. On Grandparents Day, grandparents are admitted for half-price on Sundays; finally, the last day of the 2014 swimming season will be Aug. 30. The Aquatic Park is open until 9 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays. Annual golf event planned Aug. 14 in Jackson
The 32nd annual Minnesota State Corn Cob Open will be held Aug. 14 at Jackson Golf Club in Jackson and the Loon Lake Golf Course in Jackson. The four-man scramble tournament will feature nine holes of golf, a pork burger lunch and ribeye dinner. Tournament fee is $240 per team. Register online at www.mncorncobopen.com.
