Fairmont refashions its website
FAIRMONT – The city of Fairmont has unveiled a revamped website to improve communication and information for people logging on to www.fairmont.org
“It will help us with efficiency,” said Paul Hoye, city finance director, who was responsible for overseeing the site’s renovation.
The city contracted with ADMfg of Fairmont and Bevcomm of Blue Earth to design and develop the site.
“It’s much easier to navigate,” Hoye noted.
A new feature is the mobile application, a free download through Google play or App Store.
“This creates a different way of communicating with the city,” Hoye said.
People can use the app to immediately report issues, such as potholes, malfunctioning street lights or stray animals.
“With the custom support center, the request goes to the right people, and we can respond a lot quicker,” Hoye said.
The website features links for business, citizens, visitors and departments, all with drop-down menus with additional information.
Another link is called “I want to,” which offers users options such as disconnecting utilities, contacting a specific department or viewing past City Council meetings.
Hoye said routine inquiries often received by city staff are covered in the FAQ, or frequently asked questions, section, which is under “Contact Us” and then “Find information.”
Website users can research city codes, which are accessible by topic. They also can check times, dates and locations of solid waste collections in Faribault and Martin counties.
They can even learn the monthly liquor store specials or view the various brands and types of beverages available, such as the 80-plus types of vodka carried at the store.
