Summer Festival was big hit
WELCOME – Congratulations to all responsible for the Welcome Summer Festival. The weather cooperated and the crowds were appreciative.
The parade was very nice, and congratulations to the Welcome Fire Department on the completion of its restoration of the 1929 Fire Engine.
Talking to the firefighters about the engine on Friday night was very interesting.
Next weekend will be August already. Welcome Museum will be open 2-4 p.m. Aug. 2. Check out the interesting items from Welcome’s past.
Community Vacation Bible School’s “Son Treasure Island” will be 6:30-8 p.m. this Sunday through Thursday in the fellowship hall at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
The VBS is open to any child in the Welcome area, age 3 to those who have completed sixth grade.
On the last day, Thursday, there will be a potluck meal furnished with hot dogs, plates, etc. Parents will provide the other food items.
Please register by calling Maryann Frerichs at (507) 236-7590 or Trinity Lutheran Church at (507) 728-8259.
Sounds like a fun summer event for area children.
Candidates for mayor and two council seats in Welcome can file affidavits of candidacy at City Hall beginning Tuesday and ending 5 p.m. Aug. 12. The election will be held Nov. 4.
The mayoral position is a two-year term while the two council members will be elected for four-year terms.
