Marlin L. ‘Bud’ McNea

GRANADA – A funeral service for Marlin L. “Bud” McNea, 86, of Granada, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 will be in Center Creek Cemetery, near Granada.

Marlin passed away Tuesday morning, July 22, 2014, at Lakeview Methodist Healthcare Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Marlin LeRoy “Bud” McNea was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Center Creek Township, Martin County, Minn., the son of Percy and Erma (Else) McNea. Bud attended school in Granada and graduated from Granada High School in 1946. After high school, Bud entered the U.S. Army and served stateside until his honorable discharge on June 1, 1948. After the Army, he worked for his aunt and uncle in the hardware store in Lewisville where he met Irene Haler, who worked at the drug store in Lewisville. On May 14, 1950, they were united in marriage. They lived near Granada and Bud helped his father with the farming. Bud also worked at the Post Office in Granada and eventually became a rural mail carrier. He worked for the Postal Service for 30+ years, retiring in 1983. He also worked part-time as a carpenter and helped Irene at Dave’s Home Plate Catering. Bud was involved with the Boy Scouts and was a Scout Leader and an Explorer Leader. Bud also enjoyed being the scorekeeper for the Granada-Huntley basketball games. He bowled in a league in Fairmont for many years. Bud was a collector of coins, stamps and matchbox covers. Bud and Irene moved to assisted living in Fairmont in February of 2010 due to Bud’s declining health.

Those who will cherish his memory include: his wife of 64 years, Irene McNea of Fairmont; four children, Kathy York and her husband, Wayne of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Leonard McNea and his wife, Sue of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Leon McNea of Fairmont, Minn., and Father Mark McNea of Rochester, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dick McNea of Austin, Minn., and Jim McNea of Mora, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Delores Smith of St. James, Minn., and Trudy Klein of Fairmont; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Percy and Erma McNea, Bud was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Jerry and Eldon McNea; and sister, Betty Older.
