Smiths named volunteers of year
TRUMAN – Please note a change of location for tonight’s Little Miss/Mr. program, which had been scheduled to be held in Graf Park. The event has been moved to the Truman High School gym.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., 25 children, ages 4 through sixth-graders, will participate in the program.
Several food vendors will be set up outside to provide onion rings, pop and water, etc.
Truman Days garage sales, and antique and flea market sales begin today at noon. Maps and description flyers are available at Truman stores. There are 59 official sales. You’ll be able to find many “treasures” all over town.
Truman Days garage sale No. 47 has been cancelled due to a pre-garage sale mishap.
Marc Worthley will give his hometown and all Truman Days visitors a thrill with a flyover on Friday afternoon with the F-18 Super Hornet he pilots. The exact time is not yet known. He will approach from the west and then fly back over Truman from the south at 2,000 feet. He will be in our area for an air show over the weekend.
Thanks to Marc for what we are sure will be an awesome sight and sound.
Congratulations to Lonnie and Connie Smith, who were selected as this year’s Truman volunteers of the year. They are certainly deserving of this award for all of the community volunteering they do each year at Truman School, Truman Baseball Association, Truman Lion’s Club and all throughout Truman. Thank you for saying “yes” when you have been asked to help.
Congratulations also to Mel and Arlene Carlson who will be the grand marshals at this year’s Truman Days parade, which will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday on the west end of Ciro Street. Many of their family members will be here to help them celebrate.
Be sure to wave and express your thanks to them for all of the community service they’ve given Truman over the years.
Golf carts being used during Truman Days are required to have a permit issued at City Hall. Bring your license, proof of insurance and money for a fee.
Gators, four-wheelers and Mules need the DNR license. You cannot ride on Ciro Street or Highway 15.
Please respect the law and drive carefully.
If you’re using a golf cart for the parade or selling as a vendor, you must obtain a Truman Days permit, also at City Hall. For this permit, there isn’t a fee, but you must be involved with the parade in an official manner.
A big thank you to all volunteers who have spruced up the downtown area and Graf Park by painting, pulling weeds, trimming trees, donating money and helping build picnic tables for the park area next to Truman Caf, etc., and taking pride in making Truman look good. Your hard work is noticed and appreciated.
St. Katherine’s Catholic Church service time has been changed to 4 p.m. on Saturday, instead of the usual 5:30 p.m. service time.
Anyone wishing to file for Truman mayor or one of the two council positions up for election this year is encouraged to do so at City Hall, from July 29 until Aug. 12. There is a $2 filing fee.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota donation truck will be in Truman anywhere from 7:30 a.m. until dusk on Wednesday.
Please put your plastic bags or boxes curbside on pick-up day packed for inclement weather.
Attach your yellow card that you received in the mail or write EF on a sheet of paper and attach it to your donation.
Furniture is not collected. A full list of accepted items is at www.efmn.org
