‘Pinocchio’ goes on stage this weekend

SHERBURN – Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will present “Pinocchio” with performances 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sherburn Theatre.

The play will feature local talent between the ages of 7-17 years old. These young actors have been busy practicing all this week and are eager to perform for their families, friends and community.

Make plans to attend one of their performances.


First Congregational United Church of Christ will host a salad buffet and turkey sandwich luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at their church, 212 N. Prairie St., Sherburn.

There will be a free-will offering at the door.

The luncheon is sponsored by the Women’s Fellowship group. Everyone is invited to attend.


Remember to get your tickets soon for Sherburn Area’s 3rd annual Red, White and Brew Review, a wine- and beer-tasting event that will be held 6-10 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Sherburn Fire Hall.

Besides the opportunity to taste a selection of fine wines and beer, they will have entertainment by area musicians, a classic car show and many vendors.

Food, beverages, antiques, and unique gifts will be available for purchase.

Tickets for this event may be purchased at Bank Midwest in Sherburn, Sherburn Nursery and Floral, the Old Alley Quilt Shop, or from any Sherburn Task Force member.

Proceeds will go toward a permanent expansion of the Sherburn Theatre stage and other community projects.

A mandatory Minnesota State High School League meeting for Martin County West student athletes in grades 7-12, and their parents/guardians, will be held Aug. 4. Mark this date on your calendars now so you don’t miss this meeting.


The 27th annual Martin County West Maverick Golf Classic will be held on Aug. 9 at Fox Lake Golf Club, just north of Sherburn. The golf will get under way with a shotgun start at 12:01 p.m.; a meal will be served around 6 p.m.; prizes and drawings will be held at 7:30 p.m.

This golf classic will be limited to the first 84 golfers that register. Tickets will be on sale at the Fox Lake Golf Club or the Martin County West Junior/Senior High School.

Fox Lake Golf Club will serve breakfast during the summer from 8:30 a.m. to noon each Sunday. The public is invited.


Sherburn indoor swimming pool has open swimming from 1-4 p.m. every day. They also have open swimming from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
