Donald Ray Wickelgren

NAPLES, Fla. – Donald Ray Wickelgren, 81, of Naples, Fla., passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at his home in Naples. Services will be 11 a.m. on July 31, 2014, at Rosemount UMC, 14770 Canada Ave. W., Rosemount, Minn. Burial will be with immediate family in Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military honors.

Don was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Audubon, Minn., to Ernst and Verna (Peterson) Wickelgren. Don was raised mostly by his Aunt Ellen, who instilled in him the importance of education. He was very proud of the education his successful children received. Don was an avid reader and loved sports of all kinds. Don enjoyed camping/RVing and had many happy experiences with fishing. In 1950, Don volunteered for the U.S. Air Force where he served in the dental corps while he was stationed in France. He later had his own dental business in the Chicago area. In 1956, Don married Pamela Michau. From this marriage, seven children were born. In 1975, he moved his family from Chicago to Granada, Minn., where he worked for Railway Motors and later Greenlee. In 1978, Don married Joyce (Powers) Tonne. Don was always very proud of his family and had a deep love for them all. Don was a member of East Naples UMC.

Surviving are: his wife, Joyce of Naples, Fla.; children, Dr. Bruce of Brighton, Mass., Kenneth of Rochester, Minn., Donald (Mai) of Raleigh, N.C., Steven (Monica) of Savage, Minn., Judi of Tempe, Ariz., Cathy Krueger and Marsha Wickelgren of Lakeville, Minn.; three stepchildren, Debra (Terry) O’Shiel of Grafton, Wis., Michael (Becky) Tonne of Granada, Minn., and Dori (Terry) Kain of East Chain; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Inez Howard of Washington; two half-sisters, Visa Leshousky of Audubon, Minn., and Annette (Lester) Steichen of Shoreview, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Floyd who was killed in the Korean War.
