WBE perfect in district

REDWOOD FALLS – The Winnebago/Blue Earth American Legion baseball team moved two steps closer to earning a second consecutive trip to the Division II state tournament.

Right-hander Brandyn Olsen hurled a complete game, while Christian Haugh went 2-for-4 with a double en route to four RBIs to power WBE to an 11-3 victory over Luverne during Sunday’s battle of 2nd District Tournament unbeatens in Redwood Falls.

David Franta, Alan Davids and Seth Anderson each connected for home runs to power WBE to a 15-6 triumph over St. James on Saturday to earn its showdown against Luverne.

WBE (10-7) awaits the survivor of Luverne, Springfield and St. James in the district championship game at 4 p.m. Friday in Redwood Falls.

Luverne plays host to the Division II state tournament Aug. 1-3.

Alex Stewart went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to pack punch to WBE’s nine-hit attack against Luverne on Sunday.

Franta doubled in a pair of runs, Luke Schavey contributed a double, Olsen and Davids each singled and scored twice, while Mathew Bell chipped in a hit.

Anderson was hit by a pitch, walked and scored three runs for WBE.

Olsen allowed three runs on nine hits, struck out seven and walked three in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game victory against Luverne.

Josh Slieter and Gunnar Olson connected for solo home runs for Luverne.

In Saturday’s district clash with St. James, Davids gave up six runs on nine hits, struck out eight, walked one and hit one batter in going the seven-inning distance to earn the complete-game win.

Davids assisted his own cause by going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored a pair of runs.

Anderson went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles en route to four RBIs to complement two runs scored for WBE on Saturday.

Franta smacked a home run, collected three RBIs and scored three times, Schavey went 2-for-4 with a double, while Bell went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Olsen, Haugh and Stewart each supplied a hit, with Olsen scoring twice.
