Summer fest starts today
WELCOME – Welcome Summer Festival weekend has arrived.
The Welcome Library will have a special program on book art from 9:30-11:30 a.m. today. The children will make a pop-up book.
All supplies and help from the artists will be supplied by the book art program. Sounds like a fun way to start off the weekend.
Tonight, the Welcome firefighters will sponsor a chicken feed from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Welcome Legion.
There will be inflatable rides for the children at the park; there will be a bean bag tournament with registration at 6 p.m.; Korte’s Bar and Grill will have special entertainment from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. for adults; there will be a teen/youth dance with a disc jockey from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the Welcome City Park.
The first clue for the medallion hunt will be posted 8:30 p.m. at the post office. The person finding the medallion will earn $50.
On Saturday there are citywide garage sales with maps available at Casey’s and a flea market at Weiss Milling parking lot.
The second clue for the medallion hunt will be posted 9 a.m. at the post office.
The morning also features the slow-pitch softball tournament. The afternoon features a pie and ice cream social from 1-4 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome and an outlaws baseball game beginning at 1 p.m.
There is an antique tractor display and a shine and show classic car display from 4-7 p.m.
The parade begins at 4 p.m. Please line up on Fifth Street beginning at 2:30 p.m.
After the parade, Welcome Fire Department will display its 1929 fire truck, which they lovingly restored for four years, at the Fire Hall.
After the parade, the third clue for the medallion hunt will be shown at the post office.
The Groove drum line will have a special performance after the parade up town. Pork chop diners will fill the Welcome Legion Hall from 5-7 p.m. They will feature smoked or grilled pork chops and the fixings.
After the Welcome Fire Department demonstration, there will be a kiddie tractor pull at 6 p.m., then toilet races at 7 p.m.
The fourth clue for the medallion hunt will be posted 8:30 p.m. at the post office, while the street dance featuring “Down to Earth Band” will begin at 8:30 p.m.
On Sunday, there will be a pancake feed from 9 a.m. to noon at Welcome Legion Hall. There will be a church service 9:30 a.m. in the Welcome Park and the slow pitch softball tournament continues. There will be a quilt raffle at noon.

Welcome Legion Auxiliary members are reminded they will not meet Monday. Please spread the word to other members.
Welcome Library has storytime/activity time at 3 p.m. each Wednesday for summer reading events. They will have puppies and kittens as part of the special time next Wednesday at the library.
