Fairmont VFW nips Jackson

JACKSON – The Fairmont VFW Post 1222 baseball team claimed a 7-6 victory over Jackson on Monday night in Jackson.

Tied at 6, Cody Freese scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Freese, who was pinch running for Mark Washa, scored when Matt Larson purposely got caught in a rundown between first and second base.

Sam Schwieger went 2-for-3 with one RBI to top Fairmont, while Washa contributed a run-scoring double.

Tyler Tennyson took the win by allowing six runs on eight hits, fanned four and walked two in six innings of work.

Clayton Maakestad pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Fairmont (8-4) hosts Wells at 5 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the sub-district tournament.
