Alma M. Thompson

WELCOME (FOX LAKE) – A Celebration of Life service for Alma M. Thompson, 73, of Welcome and Fox Lake, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be held at a later date.

Alma passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at her home on Fox Lake, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the time of service Monday. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Alma Marie (Pochardt) Thompson was born May 30, 1941, in Bemidji, Minn., the daughter of Melvin and Alma (Bauch) Pochardt. She attended Nary School and following her graduation, attended Mankato State University, where she graduated with a master’s degree in business administration. On Aug. 4, 1957, Alma was united in marriage to Alvin “Bud” Thompson in Sherburn, Minn. Together the couple made their home in Martin County, Minn., and celebrated 56 years of marriage. Prior to college, Alma worked at Stokley’s and Armour. After receiving her MBA, she was district manager for Waddell and Reed Financial Service. Alma then purchased H&R Block in Fairmont where she worked until her retirement in 2013. In her spare time, Alma enjoyed gardening, canning, and spending time with family and friends. She loved woodworking and treasured quiet time spent crocheting and sewing. Alma was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her and called her friend.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Alvin “Bud” Thompson of Fox Lake, Minn.; sons, Timothy Thompson of Fairmont, Minn., and Thomas Thompson of Fairmont, Minn.; daughter, Tammy Nowak of Fox Lake, Minn.; granddaughters, Melissa Waller and her husband, Joe, of Armstrong, Iowa, and Jessica Nowak of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandsons, Bradley Nowak and his wife, Brooke, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Dylan Thompson of Jackson, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Madison Waller, Hailey Waller, John Waller and Hannah Nowak; sisters, Pat Mathney and her husband, Bob, of Cass Lake, Minn., Nancy Egvet of Bemidji, Minn., and Sharon Lampton and her husband, Richard, of Hibbing, Minn.; brother, Melvin Pochardt of Virginia, Minn.; a brother-in-law, James Mathiason of Granada, Minn.; sister-in-law, Fern Thompson of North Branch, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Alma Pochardt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Ethel Thompson; four sisters, Doris Armstrong, Dorothy Jean Pochardt, Elnore Reichert and Phyllis Mathiason; as well as many in-laws and extended family.
