No. Union baseball rallies for 8-5 win
BANCROFT, Iowa – Corey Vaske lined a leadoff double to trigger North Union’s tiebreaking three-run bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Warriors to an 8-5 victory over the Pocahontas Indians during nonconference Iowa prep baseball action Tuesday night in Bancroft, Iowa.
North Union teammates Braden Ortman, Ryan Larson and Cody Runksmeier combined for three consecutive singles with two out to snap the 5-all tie.
Cody Runksmeier went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and crossed the plate twice to pace the Warriors’ nine-hit offensive attack, while Ortman went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Colin Runksmeier tripled home a pair of runs and scored once for North Union, while Vaske doubled and scored to complement generating one RBI on the contest.
Larson went 1-for-2 with one RBI for the Warriors, while Logan Hellman went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored two runs.
Colin Runksmeier pitched two innings of relief to net the victory. Runksmeier recorded three strikeouts and did not issue a walk in allowing only one hit in two shutout frames.
Starting pitcher Alex Krantz gave up five runs – three earned – on five hits in five innings of work for the Warriors. Krantz struck out two and did not issue a base-on-balls.
Ryan Grebner went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to top Pocahontas’ offensive performance, while teammate Tanner Anderson went 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Pocahontas starting pitcher Matt Lenz gave up eight runs – six earned – on nine hits, walked three and struck out two in 5 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.
North Union (11-14) travels to Manson, Iowa, tonight for a 5:30 p.m. nonconference game against Manson-Northwest Webster.
