A great day for freedom

To the Editor:

Thank you to all who attended and volunteered at the second annual Martin County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon (MCBTYR) Freedom 5K. We celebrate the Fourth of July by honoring our military, their families and veterans who endure hardship so we may live free.

The day was awesome for all ages, with 2-month-old babies to 80-year-old people walking, running, biking and, of course, enjoying a delicious gourmet pancake and coffee breakfast.

Military families also were treated to free admission at the Fairmont Aquatic Park for more fun. This was truly a family day as we gave thanks and reflected on our freedoms of our country.

A special thank you to our area businesses for their donations, Fairmont National Guard Armory for use of the facility, City of Fairmont Aquatic Park, Fairmont Fire and Police departments, HyVee, Fareway Store, Kwik Trip, Ad Mfg., Arnold Motor Supply for the food booth, Sentence to Serve in putting table and chairs away, the Sentinel and Photo Press for the wonderful articles that have been in the papers, and KJLY and KSUM for the public service announcements. You made MCBTYR fundraising efforts much easier.

As we are still at war with men and women being deployed, we pray for our military’s safe return home, peace to their families, being always grateful for there service.

Visit us on facebook at Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Martin County for pictures, upcoming events and to see other ways in which we serve our area military families.

MCBTYR is looking forward to our third annual 2015 Freedom 5K, adding “The Color Dash.” Register at THECOLORDASH5K.COM for your early registration discount.

God Bless the USA.
