FunFest slated for weekend

SHERBURN – Sherburn American Legion will host its monthly steak and shrimp dinner 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Legion. Everyone is welcome.

The performance by Jim Cruise, the “Spoon Man,” scheduled for Thursday at the Sherburn Theatre has been canceled due to a personal emergency. Sorry to say, this performance will not be rescheduled.

Lyle and Jane Jacobsen, former Sherburn residents, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a morning coffee Saturday at the home of Pat and Anne Bedford, 821 100th St., rural Sherburn.

Help them celebrate their 65 years of marriage by visiting from 10 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.

Trimont FunFest will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will begin with pork chops on a stick grilled by the Martin County Pork Producers at 5 p.m. Friday at Anderson Park. Carnival rides will be open 5-10 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the 5K/10K run or 5K walk registration will begin at 7:30 a.m.; a pancake breakfast will be served in the park starting at 8 a.m.; lots of other activities will be going on during the day Saturday including: sand volleyball, a bean bag tournament, car, motorcycle and tractor shows, carnival rides, Bingo and music in the park; Funfest food stands will open at 10 a.m.; the parade will be at 3 p.m.; a pedal tractor pull is slated for 5 p.m.; and raffle drawings will be held at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, they will hold another pancake breakfast 8 a.m. in the park; a community church service will be held 10 a.m. in the park; carnival rides open at noon until 3 p.m.

Please remember to stop in for the many fun events this weekend in Trimont.

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre, a professional touring theatre, will present “Pinocchio” on July 25-26 at the Sherburn Theatre.

They will use local talent for the performances. Auditions for students, ages 7-17, will be 1 p.m. July 21 at the theatre.

Rehearsals will be 1-5 p.m. July 22-24.

If you have a child who would like to participate, bring them to the auditions on July 21.

Martin County West Community Education and Recreation will sponsor a volleyball camp for students in grades 9-11 from 4-6:30 p.m. on July 27-29 at Martin County West High School in Sherburn. The director for the camp will be Martin County West head volleyball coach, Travis Anderson.

There also will be a camp for students in grades 2-5 from noon to 1:45 p.m., and for students in grades 6-8 from 2-4 p.m. on July 28-30.
