Sleepy Eye nips Post 36

SLEEPY EYE – Sleepy Eye American Legion Post 7 slipped past Fairmont Post 36 2-1 during baseball action on Friday in Sleepy Eye.

Ben Abel scored Fairmont’s lone run in the top of the fifth inning, racing home on Kale Fritz’s RBI single to tie the game.

Unfortunately for Fairmont, Sleepy Eye came back and scored a run in the bottom half of the fifth to come away with the 2-1 win.

Tyler Tennyson had Fairmont’s only other hit in the game.

Jay Helget recorded one hit and a run scored for Sleepy Eye, while Jared Rothmeier and Matt Berkner each had a pair of hits.

Clayton Maakestad pitched six innings for Fairmont, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three and walking three to absorb the loss.

David Surprenant pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits, striking out six, walking three and hitting two batters in the winning effort.

Fairmont American Legion Post 36 (0-2) hosts the Mankato Nationals at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
