Peter H. Hartwig
FAIRMONT – Services for Peter H. Hartwig, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be in the Welcome City Cemetery, Welcome, Minn.
Peter passed away Monday, June 16, 2014, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today, June 18, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to services Thursday, also at Lakeview Funeral Home.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Peter Herman Hartwig was born July 20, 1925, in Fox Lake Township, Minn., the son of Peter and Elizabeth Hartwig. He attended school in Fox Lake Township and was raised on a farm with three brothers and three sisters. On Aug. 9, 1946, Peter was united in marriage to Janet Meyer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Together, the couple made their home in Fox Lake Township where they started dairy farming. They later moved to Lakebelt Township near Ceylon, Minn., where they farmed until their retirement. In addition to farming, Peter also worked many jobs away from the farm. He worked at All Seasons Cab in Sherburn, Minn., Glasstite in Dunnell, Minn., and also cut peas for Stokely’s. Peter was always coming up with ideas of something to build to make work on the farm easier and more efficient.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Barb Whitehead and her husband, James of Fairmont, Minn., Russ Hartwig of Ceylon, Minn., Wayne Hartwig and his wife, Dee of Welcome, Minn., and Robert Hartwig and his wife, Mary, of St. James, Minn.; six grandchildren, Lisa Whitehead and special friend, Martin Phillips, Mike Whitehead, Patricia Gustafson and her husband, Kyle, Kristina Illies and her husband, Tim, Peter Hartwig and his wife, Amanda, and Sara Hartwig and special friend, Cory Lorentzen; 11 great-grandchildren, Bennett, Hayley, Samantha, Macy, Michael, Melanie, Brynn, Cole, Carly, Paige, and Morgan; sister, Colleen Bunge; brother-in-law, Oliver Meyer and wife, Eunice; sisters-in-law, Violet Krumwiede and Phyllis Hinz; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Hartwig; wife, Janet Hartwig; grandson, James Whitehead; great-grandson, Blake Hartwig; three brothers; two sisters; four sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
