Philip Frank Looft was born April 29, 1922, in Kossuth County, Iowa, to Frank and Henrietta (Gardner) Looft. He graduated from Seneca High School, where he played basketball and baseball. Phil turned down the opportunity to play AAA baseball when he married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Sanders, on July 24, 1943. It was so hot that day that the jello melted at the reception. The young couple moved to the Fairmont/East Chain area, where Phil and Dorothy began their family while Phil was a share farmer. Eventually, the couple moved to Blue Earth and other towns in southern Minnesota before settling in Mankato in 1966. Phil worked at Miller Motors, North Star Concrete and Thomas Oil before buying his own oil truck. Later, he drove bus for the City of Mankato and MRCI. Phil also drove the bus for Grace Baptist Church for many years. Phil and Dorothy spent many years fishing and camping. He loved to winter in Texas and play any kind of game with his family and friends … he liked to win. Phil loved to play jokes on everybody, especially Dorothy.

Phil created many happy memories for his family, who include his children, Cathrine Weber of Granada, Tom (Juanita) of Vernon Center, Mary Jo (Brad) Gohla of Mankato, Lorraine (Joe) Cozzie of Aurora, Colo., Karen (Roger) Lindenfelser of Big Lake, Philip “Frank” (Nancy) of Mankato, Steven (special friend, Deb) of Marion, S.D., and Peggy Wilmes of North Mankato; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Phil was welcomed into heaven by his beloved Dorothy, who passed away on April 21, 2014; his parents; son, Chucky; sisters and brother-in-laws, Florence (Albert) Johnson, Lois (Bob) Sanders, Jeanne (John) Hallstrom, Marvin Sanders, Raymond Sanders, and Bob Sanders; and sister-in-law, Ruth (Harold) Decker.

You are our sunshine Dad, we will miss you.
