Your gift saves lives

To the Editor:

American Red Cross heroes come in all shapes and sizes. They don’t wear capes or special suits. Their badge of honor is the bandage that shows they gave the “gift of life.”

A sincere thank you to all the donors who took the time and effort to make this happen. Congratulations to Jack H. Hansen for donating his 10th gallon.

Results of the three-day blood drive were as follows: 131 units collected with a goal of 149 units for June 10; 153 units collected with a goal of 141 units for June 11; and 74 units collected with a goal of 96 units for June 12.

Special thank you to all the volunteers: John McDonald and Kyle Redenius with the Sentence to Serve troops; Ardis Schleininger, Delores Bursow, Dave and Jo Kropp, and April Finke for helping with the canteen; Presentation College student volunteers Blaire Trembly, Amber Holtz, Jenna Rose, and Brittney Cornick, greeter help. A special thank you to Byron and Becky Phillips for their gift, and Holiday Inn for the fine facilities and great staff.

The American Red Cross provides shelter, food and clothing to victims of disasters; supplies more than 40 percent of the nation’s blood; teaches life-saving skills; ministers international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.

The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. For more information, visit redcross.org. The need is constant.

Next blood drive will be Sept. 16-18. Please contact Mark Johnson at (507) 236-8888 for appointments.
