U19 co-ed team splits pair

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont U19 co-ed soccer team split a pair of games in the last week.

Fairmont downed LeSueur 5-1 on June 2, before Marshall edged Fairmont 5-4 on Wednesday.

Grant Becker tallied three points during Fairmont’s victory over the Giants.

Quincy Quiring scored the first Fairmont goal, with an assist to Becker, before Matt Tennyson notched a second tally with the help of Becker and Ben Mitchell.

Brock Johnson scored a goal with a helper from Mitchell, before Becker found scored off an assist from Peter Nielsen.

Tennyson, Jesseca Koskovich and Trason Arens combined netminding duties for the win.

Johnson, Nielsen and Becker combined for four of the Cardinal goals during the 5-4 loss to the Tigers on Wednesday.

Johnson scored with assists from Becker and Nielsen before Nielsen scored on a Kolin Kelly pass.

Becker then scored the first of his two goals in the game with an assist from Natalie Shimon and Lexi Johnson. Lexi Johnson then recorded a second assist, helping Becker score his second goal of the game.

Arens recorded 22 saves in the game.

U17 Boys

The Fairmont U17 boys soccer team dropped a pair of games this week.

Waseca took a 9-1 win over Fairmont on Monday, before Worthington won 10-1 on Wednesday.

Mitch Smith scored the lone Fairmont goal in the 9-1 loss to Waseca, scoring off a corner kick from Sam Havnen. Jarrod Daniel recorded 24 saves in the game.

Ben Timmerman then scored Fairmont’s lone goal in the 10-1 loss to Worthington. Timmerman ripped a penalty kick into the twine for the score.

Daniel made 17 saves in the game.

U14 Girls

Owatonna slipped by the Quist Moving and Storage U14 girls soccer team 4-2 on Wednesday.

Brooke Hunwardsen scored both Fairmont goals in the game, with assists from April Cihoski and Taylor Eicholz.

Eicholz recorded 13 saves in the game, while the Cardinals fired 10 shots on net.

U12 Girls

The Bank Midwest U12 girls soccer team dropped three games this week.

Waseca swept a pair of games, 7-1, 7-1 on Wednesday in Fairmont.

Kaylean Thingstad scored Fairmont’s lone goal in Game 1 to help Fairmont avoid the shutout.

Thingstad, Angel Smith, Ella Nelson and Maddy Schwieger all combined for the goaltending duties, making 15 combined saves.

Thingstad also scored in the second game with an assist from Arika Howard.

Nelson and Schwieger teamed up for the netminding duties in the second game, making five saves.

New Ulm shut out Fairmont 1-0 on Monday.

Nelson and Kaiden Boerner combined to make five saves in the net during the game.
