Chargers hold off Warriors

SWEA CITY – Laurens-Marathon held off the North Union Warriors’ late rally to take the 4-2 victory during softball action on Wednesday in Swea City.

Dena Looft smacked a pair of doubles in the game, including a hit to score Kyarsten Mullen in the sixth inning.

With the Chargers up 4-0, Mullen led off the sixth with a hit. Looft then scorched her second double of the night, allowing Mullen to race home making it 4-1.

Jessica Govern then replaced Looft on the base paths as a pinch runner and scored when Sarah Rolling hit a triple.

Mullen and Rolling each went 1-for-3 at the plate, while Looft finished 2-for-4 in the game.

Anna Ingalls pitched two innings and allowed two runs on three hits, striking out two to take the loss.

Peyton Oleson pitched the final five innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out seven in the relief effort.

North Union (8-3) travels to play Spirit Lake, Iowa at 5:30 p.m. on today.
