In Blue Earth: Bailey resigns
BLUE EARTH – Blue Earth City Council accepted the resignation of City Administrator Kathy Bailey on Thursday.
Mayor Rick Scholtes said Bailey had turned in her resignation letter dated Monday, giving 30 days notice, but requested her last day be today.
“She has three weeks of vacation,” Scholtes said.
Councilman John Gartzke asked Bailey if she had considered a leave of absence.
“I decided I need to make a change in my life,” she answered.
She addressed the council.
“I’m proud of the last six years of accomplishments. The community has come a long way,” Bailey said with her voice breaking. “I’d like to thank my staff; things are in good hands.”
Scholtes said after the meeting that Bailey’s contract would expire in August. Beginning Monday, he will be handling things at City Hall, with help from department heads. He said the public should see no change in services.
As to hiring a new city administrator, Scholtes said, “We’re working on what will be the best way for the city now.” He added that more discussion will take place at the council meeting on Monday.
