ARMSTRONG – A funeral service for Shirley Stefanski, 93, of Armstrong, will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted, Iowa, with Pastor Suzanne Wobig, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Armstrong.
Shirley passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will from 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted.
Shirley (Barnett) Stefanski was born Dec. 15, 1920, in Ceylon, Minn., the daughter of Hugh Burton Barnett and Florence (Meyer) Barnett. She received her education in the Ceylon schools, graduating from Ceylon High School. Shirley then attended Mankato State University where she earned her degree in teaching. On Aug. 24, 1946, Shirley was united in marriage to Andrew Stefanski in Estherville, Iowa. The couple made their home in Armstrong and Shirley taught school in Estherville and Dolliver. Later, after she quit teaching, Shirley went to work at Weigh-Tronix in Armstrong, where she was in the purchasing department until she retired. Andrew died in 1987. In her leisure time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was an avid reader. Shirley cherished time with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her children, Andrea (Michael) O’Brien of Chicago, Ill., Roxanne (Jerry) Christensen of Ringsted, Iowa, Vincent Stefanski and Nina Steele of Des Moines, Iowa, and Colette (Mark) Schwenneker of Lincoln, Ark.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Francis Nelson; and brother, Bob Barnett. Preceding Shirley in death were her husband; daughter, Francine Louise; her parents; and four brothers, Albert, Eddie, Hugh and Ray.
