Fairmont VFW baseball sweeps twinbill from JWP
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont VFW Post 1222 baseball team erupted for 28 runs to sweep a doubleheader from Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, 15-5 and 13-2, respectively, Sunday at Herb Wolf Field.
Jack Waletich went 4-for-5 with two doubles and one triple to produce three RBIs and scored three runs to fuel Fairmont’s opening victory.
Tyler Tennyson went 2-for-3 with a double, drove in two runs and scored twice for Post 1222, while Nathan Gillis went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Clayton Maakestad, Carter Lloyd, Kale Fritz, Cory Lyons and Matt Larson each collected hits for Fairmont in Game 1.
Starting pitcher Cole Emler allowed one hit in four scoreless innings to notch the win. Emler struck out nine and walked one.
Waletich pounded out two hits in four at-bats to generate four RBIs to go with three runs scored to fuel Post 1222’s Game 2 triumph.
Tennyson, Larson, Evan Closs and Christian Engeman each contributed a hit to Fairmont’s effort.
Maakestad gave up two runs on three hits, struck out three and walked one in three innings of work to earn the win.
Gillis struck out four and issued two walks in two hitless and scoreless innings of relief.
Fairmont (2-1) travels to Stark tonight for a 7:30 p.m. game against Sleepy Eye.
Blue Earth 1, Fairmont 0 – Alan Davids recorded 14 strikeouts while hurling a two-hit complete-game shutout to help Blue Earth edge Fairmont, 1-0, June 4 in Blue Earth.
Eli Green produced both of Fairmont’s hits on the game.
Kale Fritz allowed one run on five hits, struck out six and walked three in six innings of work to take the loss for Fairmont.
