No. Union wins ELC invite title
ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – The Iowa Class 2A, No. 8-ranked North Union Warriors coasted to a pair of victories Saturday to capture the Estherville-Lincoln Central softball invitational’s championship.
North Union opened action on the Iowa Lakes Community College diamond with a 6-2 triumph over host ELC before assembling an 8-1 victory over Spencer in the finals.
Sarah Rolling, who went 5-for-7 with six RBIs during the two-game span, hammered a two-run home run in the first inning to trigger the Warriors’ fast start against ELC.
Rolling went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Game 1, while teammate Autumn Boland went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Dena Looft supplied an RBI single and scored a run for North Union, Peyton Oleson drove in two runs, while Kyarsten Mullen, Shaylee Hanning and Bre Anderson each added a hit.
Oleson allowed two runs – one earned – on five hits, struck out five and issued only one walk in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game victory over ELC.
Oleson then fired a seven-hit complete-game gem to earn the pitching win over Spencer. Oleson struck out three and issued one walk in six innings of work.
Rolling and Mullen each drilled doubles to spark the Warriors’ eight-hit attack in Game 2, with Rolling finishing with two hits and three RBIs.
Mullen collected one RBI and scored two runs, while Boland went 2-for-4. Oleson assisted her own cause by singling in two runs, Anna Ingalls chipped in an RBI single, while Looft added a hit and a run scored.
North Union (6-1) hosts Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire tonight in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader in Swea City.
North Union 6, Sioux Central 2 – Cody Runksmeier and Colin Runksmeier combined equally for four hits and four runs scored to guide the Warriors to a 6-2 victory over the Rebels on Friday night in Bancroft, Iowa.
Spencer Ricke, Alex Krantz and Carter Engelby each produced one hit and one RBI for North Union, while Corey Vaske chipped in one RBI via a sacrifice fly.
Cody Runksmeier allowed two earned runs on four hits, recorded 10 strikeouts and issued two walks in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game victory.
North Union (4-5) hosts Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire tonight in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader in Bancroft, Iowa.
