No. Union fends off Forest City

FOREST CITY, Iowa – Taylor Mathine scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to steer the North Union Warriors to a 7-6 triumph over Forest City during Iowa nonconference softball action Wednesday in Forest City, Iowa.

Ahead 7-6, Mathine, an outfielder, also made a running, game-ending catch with a Forest City runner on third base after the home team had rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Dena Looft pounded out four hits, including a double, to generate two RBIs for North Union, while teammate Sarah Rolling went 2-for-3 with a double to produce a game-leading three RBIs.

Autumn Boland doubled and crossed the plate twice for the Warriors, Emma Engelby doubled and scored one run, while Mathine chipped in a hit. Kyarsten Mullen added an RBI and a run scored.

Warriors ace pitcher Peyton Oleson allowed six runs – five earned – on 10 hits, recorded eight strikeouts and issued only one walk in seven innings of work to earn the complete-game victory.

North Union (3-1) competes in the Estherville-Lincoln Central Tournament on Saturday at the Iowa Lakes Community College diamond in Estherville, Iowa.
