Bulldogs collar Warriors

BANCROFT, Iowa – Tayler Throne and Matt Throne combined for six hits, including five for extra bases, and seven RBIs to power the Lake Mills Bulldogs to a 12-8 victory over the North Union Warriors on Monday during Iowa prep baseball action in Bancroft.

Tayler Throne went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple and double to generate five RBIs to complement three runs scored, while Matt Throne doubled, tripled and singled to drive in two runs.

Peter Hagenson belted a three-run home run for Lake Mills, while Mateo Pena went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Colin Runksmeier went 3-for-5 with three doubles, drove in one run and scored twice to ignite the Warriors’ 11-hit performance.

Cody Runksmeier and Corey Vaske each went 2-for-4, including a double, and scored a run for North Union. Vaske also produced two RBIs.

Spencer Ricke doubled and scored two runs for the Warriors, while teammates Alex Krantz and Parker Oleson chipped in one hit and one RBI.

Cody Runksmeier allowed nine runs on seven hits, walked four, struck out five and hit two batters in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Oleson gave up three runs on four hits, struck out six and issued three walks in closing out the final 3 2/3 innings.

Matt Throne allowed four runs on six hits, notched five strikeouts and issued six walks in 4 2/3 innings to net the victory.

North Union (2-4) plays host to North Iowa on Thursday at Memorial Park in Bancroft.
