North Union drops pair of games
SPENCER, Iowa – The North Union Warriors baseball team lost a pair of games Saturday during the Spencer tournament.
Sioux City West doubled North Union, 4-2, while Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley posted an 11-2 victory over the Warriors in Spencer, Iowa.
Taylor Nevrotn’s strong pitching arm and potent bat powered Sioux City West’s two-run non-league win over North Union.
Nevrotn recorded 12 strikeouts and issued one walk in giving up two runs on four hits in seven innings for the complete-game win.
Nevrotn went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a pair of triples, to produce two RBIs and scored a run, while teammate Austin Eslick singled home a run and scored once.
Braden Ortman went 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Warriors, while Spencer Ricke doubled home a run. Colin Runksmeier added a hit.
Corey Vaske allowed four runs on four hits, struck out five and walked three in six innings of work to take the loss for North Union.
Wyatt Connegreter went 3-for-4 with a double, scored three runs and drove in one to power BH/RV to an 11-2 tourney victory over the Warriors.
Jared Hansen, Bryce Van Peck and Brady Mosen each collected three hits and two RBIs for BH/RV.
Dustin Woelber allowed two runs on six hits, struck out seven and issued four walks in six innings of work to net the victory.
Alex Krantz went 2-for-4 with one RBI to pace the Warriors’ effort, while Colin Runksmeier went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
Krantz gave up 11 runs on 16 hits, walked four and fanned three in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss. Parker Oleson walked one and struck out one in 1/3 of an inning of relief.
North Union 12, Spirit Lake 2 (Friday) – Colin Runksmeier went 3-for-5 with a home run and a double to power the Warriors to a 12-2, six-inning victory over the Indians on Friday night in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Colin Runksmeier produced a game-leading four RBIs and scored once, while Cody Runksmeier went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Corey Vaske doubled and scored a run for North Union, Braden Ortman singled home a run and crossed the plate once, while Trent Pedersen chipped in one hit and one run.
Colin Runksmeier gave up two runs – one earned – on five hits, struck out five and walked two in six innings to earn the complete-game victory.
North Union (2-3) hosts Lake Mills today in Bancroft, Iowa.
