ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – Services for Roy Sternborg are set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Estherville, Iowa, with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Interment will follow in East Side Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville, Iowa.
Roy E. Sternborg, the son of Albert and Ella (Harvego) Sternborg, was born February 17, 1918, on the farm in rural Estherville, Iowa. He died on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at his home in Estherville at the age of 96.
He received his education and graduated from Emmet Consolidated High School. Roy attended one year at Estherville Junior College.
On August 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Emily Meyer at Huntington Methodist Church. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the farm in rural Estherville. Roy’s occupations included farming, income tax preparation at Emmet County State Bank, Anderson & Pelzer Law Office, and in his own office. During his lifetime, he also worked as a bookkeeper for Torreson Oil Co., Dalen Farm Equipment, and Star Livestock Service. Roy also loved gardening.
He was a member of the Huntington United Methodist Church.
Left to cherish Roy’s memory are his wife, Emily of Estherville; children, Mary (Mark) Hensen of Windom, Minnesota; Gene Sternborg of St. Paul, Minnesota; and Dave (Lori) Sternborg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and two grandchildren, Kristen and Ryan Nettinga, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He has been preceded in death by his parents.
