Derek William Wrase

JOICE, Iowa – A Celebration of Life for Derek William Wrase, 53, of Joice, formerly of Frost, Minn., will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Frost Community Center in Frost. A meal will be served, with all friends and family being invited to share their memories of Derek. A private burial will be held at a later date in United Lutheran Cemetery, Frost.

Derek passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 20, 2014, as a result of an accident that occurred in Nebraska while driving for Pete Klein Trucking based out of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Derek William Wrase was born April 1, 1961, in Adrian, Minn., to Henry William “Bill” and Constance Elaine (Brekke) Wrase. The young family relocated to Frost, Minn., shortly thereafter, where Derek attended school, becoming the last graduate ever to receive a diploma from Frost High School in 1979. Derek started driving truck soon after and over the years he saw much of the United States from behind the window of his semi. On July 21, 1988, Derek married Rennie Amundson in Moody County, S.D. The couple had two daughters, Alyson Dee and Ayrica Monene. Derek enjoyed riding his Harley, tinkering with old vehicles, watching the History Channel, and most of all joking with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his ability to carry on a conversation with anyone. His easy-going nature helped Derek make many friends over the years. His memory will be cherished by his two daughters, Aly (Lee) Lincoln, and Ayrica (Caleb Franke) Wrase, all of Frost, Minn.; partner, Jennifer Nelson and her son, James of Joice, Iowa; mother, Connie Wrase of Frost, Minn.; his sister, Jacalyn (Bruce) Dreier, of St. Anthony, Minn.; his two brothers, Patrick (Connie) Wrase of Eagan, Minn., and Thomas Wrase, of Fairmont, Minn.; grandmother, Clarice Brekke of Frost; uncle, Gary (Connie) Brekke of Rochester, Minn.; his former wife, Rennie Amundson and her children Keith and Amy, all of Frost, Minn; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Derek was preceded in death by his father, Bill Wrase and his grandfather, Edmund Brekke.
