Curtis G. Olson

SHERBURN – A Celebration of Life service for Curtis G. Olson, 87, of Sherburn, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson, officiating. Burial will be in Sherburn Cemetery, Sherburn, Minn.

Curtis was called to his eternal rest on Sunday morning, May 18, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Curtis Gordon Olson was born Dec. 26, 1926, in Cedar Township, Martin County, Minn., to Harry and Marie (Sjogren) Olson. He was baptized on Feb. 3, 1927, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Triumph, Minn. and later confirmed on Dec. 16, 1948, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Curtis attended and later was a 1944 graduate of Triumph-Monterey High School. Curtis then farmed in Martin County. On Oct. 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Leila Mae Carlson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minn.

After their marriage, they lived on a farm west of Trimont in Cedar Township. They later moved to a farm in Elm Creek Township until moving into Sherburn in 1971. Curtis owned and operated Curtis Olson Agency and worked for Land Services both in Sherburn for many years. He was involved with ROK Partnership in Sherburn for many years. Curtis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served as a Sunday and Release Time Teacher and was President of the congregation at one time. He was a member of the Sherburn Lions Club, was a Gideon, and served on the Sherburn City Council where he served as Mayor. Curtis held professional rating as LUTC, CLU, CFC and was a member of NAIFA.

Survivors include: his two sons, Kurt Olson of Sherburn, Minn., and Karl Olson and his wife, Deb, of Sherburn, Minn.; grandchildren, Derek Olson and his wife, Ashley, Christopher Knox and his wife, Christi, Michael Johnson, Zachary Olson, Tony Connors, Eric Olson, Christina Olson and Brian Olson; great-grandchildren, Reese Addison Olson, Elizabeth Knox, Noah Knox, Emmet Michael Olson; brother, Lloyd H. Olson of Trimont, Minn.; sister-in-law, Mabel Olson of rural Mountain Lake, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Curtis had many numerous foster grandchildren.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leila Mae Olson on Dec. 9, 2008; brothers, Burton Olson and Lester and Doris Olson; nephew, Steven Olson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert and Dolores Peterson; mother and father-in-law, Roland and Josie Carlson; and other relatives.
