St. Peter eliminates B.E. Area netters

ST. PETER – The No. 2-seeded St. Peter Saints shut out the No. 7-seeded Blue Earth Area Bucs 7-0 during Section 2A Team Meet quarterfinal tennis action on Monday at Gibbs Courts in St. Peter.

St. Peter (12-4) advances to face the winner between No. 3-seeded Holy Family Catholic and No. 6 Academy of Holy Angels.

The sectional quarterfinal between HFC and Holy Angels was postponed due to rain. The two teams square off at 4:30 p.m. today in Victoria.

Blue Earth Area finished its season with a 1-11 overall record.

The Saints won all seven matches in straight sets.

Matt Huber won the No. 1 singles match with a pair of 6-2 set victories over Hunter Myers.

Zeke Haugen then downed Leon Chaudhari 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, before Rafat Solaiman fended off Chandler Kienitz 6-3, 6-1 at third singles.

Drew Elofson completed the Saints’ singles sweep by winning 6-0, 6-0 over Spenser Timmerman at No. 4.

Avery Bachman and Joseph More teamed for another 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory for the Saints, winning at No. 2 doubles over Justus Thelen and Spencer Petersen.

Alex Willson and Ben Gault took matching sets by decisions of 6-1, 6-1 to beat Jaron King and Martin Granados at No. 1 doubles.

Aaron Leeb and Kaelan Weiss then completed the Saints’ team sweep of the meet with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mason Hehr and Parker Kienitz at third doubles.

Fairmont, St. James – The Cardinals’ and the Saints’ Section 2A Team Meet quarterfinal scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday at Cardinal Courts was postponed due to rain.

The Cardinals will play host to the Saints at 4:30 p.m. today in Fairmont.

The winner advances to face top-seeded Mound Westonka at noon Wednesday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
