Luverne boys tennis team serves shutout at B.E. Area

BLUE EARTH – The Luverne Cardinals blanked the Blue Earth Area Bucs 7-0 during nonconference boys tennis action on Thursday at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

The Cardinals did not give up a set in their seven-match victory, winning in straight sets.

Jonny Vajgrt beat Hunter Myers 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, before teammate Andrew Jelken downed Leon Chaudhari 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Erik Wohnoutka and Isaac Gillette completed the Cardinals’ sweep through the singles bracket.

Wohnoutka beat Chandler Kienitz 6-1, 6-1 at third singles, before Gillette cruised by Parker Kienitz 6-3, 6-0 at fourth singles.

Hunter Robinson and Chris Jelken teamed for a 6-0, 6-0 shutout victory over Justus Thelen and Spencer Petersen at No. 2 doubles.

Toby Sengvongxay and Dalton Schuenemann also had matching set scores in their third doubles win. The Cardinal duo downed Mason Hehr and Spenser Timmerman 6-1, 6-1.

Blake Ziegler and Cory Stroeh then teamed for the final Luverne team point, beating Jaron King and Martin Granados 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Blue Earth Area (1-10, 0-5 SCC) competes in the South Central Conference Meet at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. James.
