Mavericks rout Knights

WELCOME – Rebecca Steen went 4-for-4 with three extra-base hits to power the Martin County West Mavericks to a 21-0, five-inning softball victory over the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Knights on Wednesday in Welcome.

Steen pounded out a pair of doubles and one triple to generate three RBIs during the Valley Conference contest at Fox Lake Area Sports Complex.

Martha Olson delivered a 3-for-3 performance from inside the batter’s box, including a double, to drive in two runs for the Mavericks.

Jordan Gregory went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and collected two RBIs for Martin County West, while teammate Sierra Williamson went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Kennedy Janssen contributed a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, including a double, and drove in three runs for Martin County West.

Shawna Dressen rounded out the Mavericks’ 17-hit performance by going 1-for-1 with a double en route to three RBIs on the game.

Starting pitcher Jordan Gregory allowed one hit, struck out four and walked three in four scoreless innings of work to earn the victory for the Mavericks.

Mariah Rasmussen recorded one strikeout and issued one walk in one inning of relief for MCW.

Alexis Brummond collected the Knights’ only hit.

Amber Schulz struck out one and walked nine in four innings to take the loss.

Martin County West (11-3, 6-2 Valley) hosts Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 5:30 p.m. today in Welcome.

Martin Luther/GHEC hosts Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton on Friday in Northrop.
