Fairmont sweeps BEA in dual meet
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinal boys and girls golf teams swept the Blue Earth Area Bucs in South Central Conference dual meet action on Tuesday at Interlaken Golf Club in Fairmont.
The Cardinals’ Mitch Pfingsten scored a meet-low nine-hole round of 37 to earn medalist honors on the boys side, while the Bucs’ Natali Fellows won the girls’ competition by one stroke with a 47.
The Fairmont boys team just edged BEA 183-188, while the Cardinal girls outpaced the Bucs 217-246.
Pfingsten carded five pars and two birdies on his way to a medalist finish.
The Cardinal senior was 2-over par after four holes. After a par on No. 5, Pfingsten was able to score red numbers on holes 6 and 8.
Pfingsten scored a four on the par-5 No. 6, before securing a par on No. 7 and then followed with a birdie on the par-4 No. 8.
Sam Havnen carded one birdie on the par-3 No. 3 on his way to a round of 48, while Fairmont teammate Cole Huinker finished with one par on No. 9 to also finish with a 48.
Joe Nordquist completed the counting marks with a 50 for the Cardinals. Bryan Grotte rounded out Fairmont’s efforts with a 52, including one par.
The Bucs’ Zach Curtis scored a birdie on the par-5 No. 2, and carded three pars on his way to a second-place 43 to pace the Bucs.
Connor Thielfoldt carded four pars in his round of 47 for BEA, while Trevor Zierke finished his round with back-to-back pars for a 48.
Lane Anderson completed the team score with a round of 50 for the Bucs.
Luke Monson scored two pars on Nos. 2 and 3, finishing with a 50, while Tanner Wickersham totaled a 53 to round out the Bucs’ effort.
Emily Kim finished one stroke off of meet medalist Natali Fellows’ round of 47 to finish second in the meet to pace the Cardinals’ winning ways.
Kim parred the par-5 No. 6 on her way to a nine-hole round of 48.
Cassidy Krusemark also carded a par on the par-5 No. 7 on her way to a round of 52 for the Cardinals.
Lexi Johnson and Dayna Madsen completed Fairmont’s counting scores with rounds of 57 and 60, respectively.
Alyssa Westcott and Bailey Dulas completed the Cardinal efforts with rounds of 62 and 65, respectively.
While Fellows topped the Bucs, Mateja Lane was second on the team with a round of 61.
Ashley Petersen and Olivia Meyers completed the Bucs’ team score with rounds of 66 and 72, respectively.
Fairmont travels to Waseca for a South Central Conference dual meet at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Waseca Lakeside Golf Course.
Blue Earth Area plays United South Central in a 4:30 p.m. nonconference game Thursday in Wells.

Madelia 184, Truman/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain 200, St. Clair 205 – Jordan Henry carded a nine-hole round of 39 to earn medalist honors in steering the Blackhawks to the Valley Conference triangular triumph on Tuesday at Terrace View Golf Course in Mankato.
Zach Baumgartner produced a 46 for Madelia, Riley Benzel netted a 47, while Carson Wihlm fired a 52 to complete the winning team total.
Michael Dallager shot a 42 to pace the Bluejays’ runner-up team score, while Logan Pytleski delivered a 51. Jackson Maloney penciled in a 53, while Anthony True fired a 54 to complete Truman/GHEC’s counting marks.
Chris Crissinger tallied a 55, while Storm Pearson netted a 64 to round out the Bluejays’ efforts.
Austin Weis netted a 49 to pace the host Cyclones, while Matt More generated a 50. Alex Eilertson chipped in a 51, while Andrew Yock added a 55.
Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (3-4) travels to Madelia for a dual meet next Tuesday.
North Union 178, West Bend-Mallard 210 – Parker Oleson penciled in a medalist mark of 37 to pace the Warriors’ 32-shot Corn Belt Conference victory over the Wolverines on Tuesday in West Bend, Iowa.
Alex Krantz shot a runner-up medalist total of 44 for North Union, while Nathan Eaton and Colton Nicoson chipped in a 46 and a 51, respectively.
Tyler Quinn (52) and Jacob Braddock (55) rounded out the Warriors’ performance.
North Union plays North Iowa on Friday at Gruis Golf Course.
