MCW 2nd, FHS 3rd at tourney

WINDOM – The Class A, No. 6-ranked and undefeated Mankato Loyola Crusaders edged the Martin County West Mavericks, 8-5, in the championship game of the Windom softball invite on Saturday.

MaKenna Ehlert and Jordyn Strachan each collected two hits, including two-run doubles, to top Loyola.

Strachan allowed four runs on nine hits, struck out four and walked four in six innings of work to earn the win. Katie Homan gave up one run on two hits and fanned one in one inning of relief.

Jordan Gregory collected two hits, including a triple, for one RBI for MCW, while Shawna Dressen doubled, singled and drove in a run. Kate Thiesse and Rebecca Steen added two hits apiece, with Thiesse notching a double.

Sierra Williamson gave up eight runs on 10 hits, walked five and fanned one in six innings pitched to take the loss.

Molly Klima delivered the game-winning RBI single during MCW’s final at-bat of its tourney opener to edge Windom, 11-10.

Klima, Dressen, Thiesse, Gregory, Williamson and Martha Olson each generated two hits for the Mavericks.

Thiesse doubled and belted a two-run homer, Gregory tripled and doubled to plate two runs, Olson doubled in two runs, Williamson had one RBI via a double, while Klima and Dressen each added one RBI.

Gregory gave up seven runs on five hits, walked five and fanned one in four innings of relief to net the win.

Gregory and Williamson combined for five hits and seven RBIs to power MCW to an 18-0, five-inning win over Madelia/Truman in second-round action. Gregory collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, en route to three RBIs, while Williamson homered and doubled to net four RBIs.

Thiesse produced a double and three RBIs, Steen delivered a two-run double and Dressen added a two-run single.

Williamson allowed one hit through four shutout innings, fanned two and walked one to earn the win. Gregory pitched one hitless and scoreless inning of relief.

Hanna Hartman accounted for the Jayhawks’ only hit of the game.

Martin County West (8-3, 3-2 Valley) hosts St. Clair on Tuesday in Welcome.

The Fairmont Cardinals defeated host Windom, 8-5, to capture third place at the Windom Invite on Saturday.

Micaela Gochanour went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to produce two RBIs to complement two runs scored for Fairmont.

Allison Moeller and Courtney Guetter each went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Cardinals, with Moeller doubling and scoring twice.

Fairmont right-hander Aly Eversman allowed five runs – four earned – on eight hits, struck out two and did not issue a walk in seven innings to earn the complete-game win.

Fairmont opened tourney action by pounding out 16 hits to fuel a 13-2, five-inning victory over Adrian.

Abby Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles for the Cardinals, while Guetter went 2-for-4 with a game-best four RBIs. Moeller and Kristen Campe each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, with Moeller belting a triple.

Lisa Craig and Eversman each went 2-for-3 with a double to round out Fairmont’s winning ways.

Eversman allowed two runs on four hits, struck out six and walked one in five frames to earn the complete-game victory.

Class A, No. 6-ranked Mankato Loyola blanked Fairmont, 14-0 in five innings, during second-round action.

Eversman, Moeller and Payton Walser each belted doubles to account for the Cardinals’ three hits.

Loyola ace hurler Katie Homan struck out five and walked one in five shutout innings to earn the victory.

RaeAnn Dose produced two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Crusaders, Makenna Ehlert contributed an RBI triple and scored twice, while Kennedy Benning and Jenna Helget each added doubles.

Fairmont (5-5) hosts Worthington on Tuesday at Cardinal Park.

The Madelia/Truman Jayhawks placed sixth at the Windom Invite on Saturday.

Megan Theesfeld doubled twice for four RBIs and scored two runs, while Alyssa Fast went 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI to lift Windom to an 8-3 first-round win over the Jayhawks.

Savannah Hodge went 3-for-4 and scored a run to top M/T, Ciera Drevlow delivered an RBI single, while Melody Colon and Stephanie Jahnz chipped in hits.

M/T hurler Beth Kotewa gave up eight runs – only four earned – on 10 hits, struck out nine and walked two in six innings to take the loss.

Megan Vesey gave up three runs – one earned – on six hits, fanned three and walked one in seven innings to earn the complete-game win for Windom.

Jodi Bents doubled and homered to drive in three runs, while Devin Dreesen went 4-for-4, including a double, to produce four RBIs to power Adrian to a 12-2, six-inning win over Madelia/Truman in the fifth-place game.

Bailey Grussing allowed two unearned runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked two in six innings to earn the complete-game win for Adrian.

Savannah Hodge went 2-for-3 and scored a run to top M/T, while Beth Kotewa singled home two runs. Stephanie Jahnz went 2-for-2, while Melody Colon and Hanna Hartman chipped in hits for the Jayhawks.

Beth Kotewa gave up 12 runs – eight earned – on 14 hits, struck out 11 and walked three in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Madelia/Truman (3-8, 1-2 Valley) travels to Janesville on Tuesday.
