St. James netters serve loss to Blue Earth Area

BLUE EARTH – The St. James Saints won all but one match to defeat the Blue Earth Area Bucs 6-1 during South Central Conference boys tennis action on Thursday in Blue Earth.

Chance Andrews won the lone Buc match of the dual meet, beating Brandon Hjelmer 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at fourth singles.

The Saints swept the doubles bracket and won the rest of the singles matches to cruise to the win.

John Foss and Connor Olson won the first and second singles matches over Hunter Myers and Jaron King. Foss downed Myers 6-2, 6-1, while Olson won 6-1, 6-0.

Sandin Skow claimed the other singles point for the Saints, beating Chandler Kienitz by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Will Runge and Connor Engel teamed to outlast Leon Chaudhari and Martin Granados in a three-set match at first doubles.

The Saints won the opening set in a tiebreaker, outlasting the Bucs 7-6 (7-3). Granados and Chaudhari then came back to win the second set 7-6.

With impending darkness, the opponents faced off in a super tiebreaker, which the Saints won 12-10 to claim the team point.

Cole Skow and Colin Hoppe then teamed at second doubles to beat Justus Thelen and Spencer Petersen by a score of 6-1, 6-3.

Aaron Plymn and Cameron Geise completed the Saints’ sweep through the doubles bracket with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Parker Kienitz and Mason Hehr at No. 3 doubles.

Blue Earth Area (1-6) plays host to Albert Lea in a nonconference meet at 4:30 p.m. today at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
