Violet G. ‘Vi’ Conlin

FAIRMONT – Services for Violet G. “Vi” Conlin, 90, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the chapel of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will be following the service in Lakeside Cemetery.

Vi passed away Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Lutz Wing in Fairmont. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements.

Violet G. (Grothe) Conlin was born April 5, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Poetz) Grothe. As a young child, Vi was taken to the Minnesota State Public School in Owatonna, Minn., where she lived and received her education. On Oct. 17, 1944, Vi was united in marriage to Alvin W. Conlin in Fairmont, Minn. Together, the couple made their home in Sherburn, then later Fairmont and were blessed with three children:?Bonnie, Gary and Jerry. Vi worked as a housekeeper for many years, retiring in 1995. Vi was a member of the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries. She was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Birthday Club. In her spare time, Vi enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her flowers. She looked forward to summer and spring and her walks to Lincoln Park to take in the beautiful flowers when they were in bloom. Vi loved family and cherished any opportunity to have her house full of family and friends and took great joy in entertaining them.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bonnie (Dave) Landsteiner of Fairmont, Minn., Gary (Julie) Conlin of Owatonna, Minn., and Jerry (Sande) Conlin of Chandler, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kevin (Laura) Landsteiner, Theresa (Chuck) Jennings, Robin Kelly, Shawn (Kari) Landsteiner, Casey (Stella) Kim, Ryan (Claudia) Conlin, Chris Conlin, Molly (Jordan) Abramo, Tyler Conlin and Bethany Conlin; 12 plus great-grandchildren; one plus great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Sally Sather, Bernadette Eiffler, Lillian Berger and Hank Grothe; as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Margaret Grothe; husband, Alvin Conlin; sister, Delores Johnson; two brothers, George Grothe and Richard Grothe; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Conlin-Schmidt.

The family requests memorials be given in Vi’s name to the Minnesota State Public School, the American Cancer Society or Grace Lutheran Church.
