Fairmont wins golf duals with St. James

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals boys and girls golf teams swept the St. James Saints during South Central Conference dual meet action on Tuesday at Interlaken Golf Club.

Mitch Pfingsten and Sam Havnen earned co-medalist honors with nine-hole rounds of 40 to help the Cardinals top the Saints 172-214, while Fairmont’s Emily Kim scored a medalist round of 48 in the 224-232 win over St. James.

Pfingsten carded four pars and one birdie in his season-opening round, while Havnen generated a meet-best six pars.

Joe Nordquist scored three pars and came away with a round of 45, while Derrick Hohensee finished with a two-par round of 47 to round out the Cardinals’ counting scores.

Trason Arens tallied a 54, while Cole Huinker scored a 56, including one par, to round out Fairmont’s efforts.

Tyler Witcraft topped the Saints with a 50, while John Olsen carded a 51.

The Saints also got scoring from Walker Froehling and Ryan Witcraft, who scored 57 and 56, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Kim recorded one par on the way to her medalist accolades to lead the Cardinals to victory.

Cassidy Krusemark also parred one of her nine holes on the day, scoring a 53 for Fairmont.

Dayna Madsen and Alyssa Westcott then rounded out the counting marks with scores of 56 and 67, respectively.

Bailey Dulas and Lexi Johnson finished off the Cardinal effort, scoring rounds of 68 and 82, respectively.

Lyndsey Haler topped the Saints’ efforts by carding a 52, while Julia Boeve added a round of 56.

Sophie Lepp and Lil Krause rounded out the team score for the Saints with rounds of 60 and 64, respectively.

The Fairmont boys (1-0) and girls (1-0) golf teams compete in the New Ulm Invite at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the New Ulm Country Club.

United South Central 175, Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 195, Maple River 220 (Boys) – Nick Neubauer carded a runner-up medalist mark of 41 to steer the Rebels to a 20-shot victory over the host Bluejays and 45-stroke win over the Eagles during triangular action Tuesday at Rose Lake Golf Course in Fairmont.

Ryan Pederson fired a 44, while Nate Pederson and Seth Olson each tallied 45s to round out USC’s winning effort.

Truman/GHEC’s Michael Dallager and Maple River’s Brandon Sohre each penciled in nine-hole scores of 40 to share meet medalist honors.

Logan Pytleski tallied a 46, Anthony True shot a 51 and Jackson Maloney chalked up a 58 to round out the Bluejays’ counting marks.

Chris Crissinger (60) and Tyler Mathiason (66) completed Truman/GHEC’s effort.

Eric Jaeger fired a 59 for the Eagles, while Michael Schmit and Dylan Blakesley chipped in a 60 and a 61, respectively.

Truman/GHEC (1-1) travels to Madelia next Tuesday for a dual meet with the Blackhawks.

USC 200, Maple River 244 (Girls) – Veronica Schindler penciled in a meet medalist mark of 42 to pace the Rebels’ victory over the Eagles on Tuesday at Rose Lake Golf Course in Fairmont.

Kyley Bullerman chipped in a 46, Katelyn Loegering fired a 54 and Morgan Pyzick tallied a 58 for USC.

Hannah Benning and Hannah Murphy each shot 55s for Maple River, while Brianna Kleven and Jordan Willis netted a 63 and a 71, respectively.
