Cardinals eighth at Invitational
MARSHALL – The Fairmont Cardinals boys golf team finished eighth at the Marshall Invite on Saturday in Marshall.
Marshall Black topped the team competition with a score of 296 with the help of meet medalist Matt Bennett and Brent Haukom’s 70 and 71, respectively.
Fairmont finished eighth with a score of 373, while Mankato East was second at 310 and New Ulm finished third with 316.
Joe Nordquist topped the Cardinals’ individual performances, scoring an 83, while Sam Havnen carded a round of 92.
Cole Huinker scored a 96 and Trason Arens netted a round of 102 to round out the Cardinals’ team scores.
Derrick Hohensee and Joey Peterson scored 105 and 133, resepectively to complete the Cardinal effort.
Fairmont plays host to Jackson County Central’s boys and girls teams in a dual meet at 4:15 p.m. today at Interlake Golf Club in Fairmont.
Spirit Lake 156, North Union 186 – The Indians scored two under-40 rounds to down the Warriors 156-186 on Friday at Brooks National Golf Course in Spirit Lake.
Zach Scopek earned medalist honors with a meet-low score of 35, while teammate Trever Caldwell was the runner up with a 39.
Parker Oleson topped the Warriors with a 43, while Colton Nicoson scored a round of 45.
Nathan Eaton and Alex Krantz completed the team scoring with matching rounds of 49 for the Warriors.
Jacob Braddock and Tyler Quinn rounded out the Warriors’ effort with scores of 58 and 60, respectively.
North Union travels to play Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire in a Corn Belt Confernce dual meet at 4 p.m. Thursdy at Hillcrest Country Club in Adel, Iowa.
