Mavericks twist past Cyclones
SHERBURN – Cordell Weber fired a nine-hole score of 37 to earn meet medalist honors in powering the Martin County West Mavericks to a 162-256 Valley Conference golf victory over the St. Clair Cyclones on Friday.
Connor Anderson and Hunter Olson each contributed rounds of 41 to the Mavericks’ winning ways at Fox Lake Golf Course, while Jacob Buntjer fired a 43.
Hunter Schofield and Chris Kahler chipped in a 46 and a 47, respectively, for MCW.
Alex Eilertson carded a 51 to top St. Clair’s effort, followed by teammates Anthony Lemke (62), Austin Weis (69) and Mason Stenzel (74).
Morgan Larson penciled in a girls meet-medalist mark of 46, but the Mavericks did not have a complete four-golfer team. Taylor DeVary added a 68 for MCW.
Becky Drummer shot a 57 to pace St. Clair, while Bailee Weis (65), Megan Gahl (72) and Megan Bodin (73) rounded out the totals.
Martin County West is idle until traveling to Jackson on Tuesday, April 22, for a dual meet with Jackson County Central.
North Union’s Parker Oleson scored a meet-low 38 to earn medalist honors during triangular golf action on Thursday in Estherville, Iowa.
Estherville-Lincoln Central took first in the team competition with a score of 173, Algona placed second with 189 and the Warriors finished third with 205.
Nathan Eaton scored a 45, Tyler Quinn netted a 59, while Jacob Braddock fired a 63 for North Union.
North Union plays a Corn Belt Conference dual meet with Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Tuesday at Hillcrest Country Club in Adel, Iowa.
