MCW golf team 2nd at quad

JANESVILLE – Cordell Weber tied for second to pace the Martin County West boys golf team to a second-place finish, while Morgan Larson earned medalists honors for the Maverick girls during a quad meet on Tuesday at the Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Janesville.

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton’s Nathan Schmitz scored a meet-low 38 to take top honors to help the Bulldogs to their winning team score of 170.

Brady Gerdts tied Weber for second with rounds of 41, while Zach Monshaugen added a 42 for the Bulldogs.

Madelia’s Jordan Henry finished in fifth with a round of 44 to top the Blackhawks’ third-place effort of 197.

Connor Anderson scored a 45, while Hunter Scofield netted a 46 to help the Mavericks on their way to a second-place total of 183.

Chris Kahler rounded out the MCW team score with a round of 51.

On the girls’ side, Larson topped the field with her low score of 54.

Kia Ruch and Isabella Sullivan tied for Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial with rounds of 57 during the quadrangular.

Jennifer Peterson and Taylor DeVary rounded out the Mavericks’ three-player effort with scores of 58 and 69, respectively.

Martin County West will play host to St. Clair in a Valley Conference dual meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn.
