Welcome service center opening

WELCOME – Jesse Odegaard will take his business to the next level when his auto and semi shop opens in Welcome on Monday.

After many years of running a vehicle and semi repair business in rural Iowa, Odegaard began work on an eight-stall car and semi garage at the intersection of Highway 263 and County Road 26 in Welcome.

“I felt in this area – Ceylon, Welcome, Trimont, Sherburn – it’s an area that’s not flooded with auto repair places,” Odegaard said. “This is a great location … I want to make an impression in a short time period.”

Services available will cover the basics, such as oil changes and new tires, to nearly everything related to semis.

“With trucks, it’s everything from top to bottom,” Odegaard said. “I won’t be doing overhauls on cars or diagnostics. We can hook it up to see what’s wrong with it, but if it gets too deep, we might have to send it somewhere else.”

With the expansion, Odegaard is looking to add about four to five mechanics.

“I’m taking applications now,” he said. “I need diesel and auto techs. We have room here to grow a bit.”

While Odegaard’s does not officially open until Monday, he already has seen some of his loyal customers follow him.

“If my Iowa customers are willing to come up here, I think that says something about our business,” Odegaard said. “My biggest thing is just like it was with my clientele in Iowa, I want to give my customers the same kind of treatment; treating people like they should be treated, not just a number or the next customer in line.”

Odegaard’s building project has managed to stay on schedule for the most part, despite the long, cold winter.

“It’s been a battle,” Odegaard admitted. “But every construction project is.”
